The mystery peony discovered at Reford Gardens in Grand - M
étis, Quebec was named 'Elsie Reford', after the creator of one of Canada's foremost gardens. After much debate it was decided that this hybrid was a naturally occurring cross between Paeonia mlokosewitschii and P wittmanniana. The peony has been registered with the American Peony Society, at a public ceremony on July 1, 2006. A fitting tribute to an exceptional collector.
